COMMUNITY SERVICE-Bill Wayman, Director

The Shades Valley Rotary Community Services Committee has many exciting projects this year. With a current budget of $6,000, and the encouragement that Fred Rogers has agreed to chair a
Fundraising Committee for the benefit of our Community Services, we will, hopefully, have the resources to assist more charitable organizations than ever before.
Goals for the upcoming Rotary year are as follows:

• First Light Women's Shelter –purchase new cushions in their seating areas. We will also provide a meal for these ladies one night in the coming months. We will need servers for this night.
• Lovelady Center, an organization that is new to us, but one that has many needs. More to come on the many opportunities of service regarding this Center.
• We will, again, collect any coats that you, and yourfamily members, no longer need. Each week, beginning in October, you may bring your discarded coats, which will be delivered to The Salvation Army.
• We will also continue the food drive this year. We have received a request from The Salvation Army, stating that their shelves are bare, and that they are in desperate need of food to disburse to the hungry in our area. We will collect food in October, November and December, and again in April, May and June. Please remember, there are many, many homeless people in our area, and the shelters that provide them with food are in constant need.
• Low Vision Center, located at Medical Center East –Contacts are being made to determine in what capacity we may assist here.
• Boy's and Girl's Big Oak Ranch – We will make a monetary contribution to this worthwhile cause and assist in any way that we can.
• Several Rotarians have shown a strong interest and willingness to assist organizations involved with Autism of Children. On August 18th, Bill Wayman will attend a fundraiser with hopes of discovering how we may assist in this area of need.
• We will provide a stipend for a visiting student from Spring Valley School.
• Relay for Life – Again, in April, we will take a very active part in this annual fundraiser at Mountain Brook High School. Over the past several years, Mountain Brook High School has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research.
• We will have a Toy Drive in December.
• We will work on the completion of the Belfry and Japanese Bell for the Birmingham Botanical Gardens' Centennial Project.
As mentioned before, with the help of our Fundraising Committee, and hard work from all of us, the opportunities of service in our community are vast. The members of your Community Service
Committee are all willing to work diligently to achieve our goals. Please help in any way that you can.
